History
The idea for an enclosed football stadium at Idaho State University originated with Milton W. "Dubby" Holt, the university's athletic director in 1966. His idea was a radical one for the time, and was met with much criticism. Despite skeptics of the project, in 1967 the costs and program were presented to the student body and in January of 1968 the student body voted on the issue, approving the covered sports facility. The project was not to exceed 2.8 million dollars, and was to be funded by student revenue bonds.

Construction on the building began on October 1, 1968 and the building was completed by 1970. The building is 400 by 420 feet, enclosing 194,400 square feet of building floor area. The structure is recessed 20 feet below grade, and rises 89 feet above grade giving it a clear span at center of 103 feet.

Although the structure was built primarily for use by ISU Athletics, it has become a center of activity in Pocatello, and surrounding areas. The facility hosts ISU football, ISU Men's and Women's basketball, Indoor track, High school sports, Intramural sports, concerts, religious conferences, trade shows, rodeos, and a variety of other events. The wide variety of events housed at the Holt Arena speaks to the versatility of the design of the structure.

Holt Arena is located at 550 Memorial Drive, in Pocatello, Idaho 83201. The arena is easily accessible from Interstate 15.

From Salt Lake City
Take I-15 north to exit 69 (Clark Street exit). Turn Left onto E. Center St. which will become E. Clark St. Turn Left onto 18th street and continue straight until you reach the Holt Arena.

From Boise
Take I-84 east to I-15 south. Take exit 69 (Clark Street exit). The exit ramp will circle around and become E. Clark St. Turn Left onto 18th street and continue straight until you reach the Holt Arena.

From Idaho Falls
Take I-15 south to exit 69 (Clark Street exit). The exit ramp will circle around and become E. Clark St. Turn Left onto 18th street and continue straight until you reach the Holt Arena.
