Pocatello, ID-- Idaho State University head volleyball coach Chad Teichert has named David Hyte as the top assistant coach on his staff. Hyte brings a wealth of knowledge as a coach and as a former Division I player. Also, Katie Edgson, the lone senior from last season's squad, will also help in coaching her previous teammates as a graduate assistant coach. Hyte gained coaching experience when he was a volunteer assistant coach at Brigham Young University under the direction of Jason Watson. "Dave came highly recommended from Jason as well as other head coaches," said head coach Teichert. "He comes from winning programs and plans on winning." Hyte focused primarily on middle blockers and team blocking at Brigham Young to help the team reach second in the Mountain West Conference in team blocks and first in hitting percentage. The middle blockers that he coached were first and third respectively in the conference for hitting percentage and third and fifth in blocking. With his help the team was ranked 14th in the country in hitting and 24th in blocking.
Not only has Hyte helped at the collegiate level he has also followed in head coach Teichert's forte as a volleyball clinician. Hyte has had seven years of experience participating in and running summer volleyball camps. With Idaho State, he will serve as the top assistant for new coach Chad Teichert and he will serve as ISU's recruiting coordinator, along with working with the team's middle blockers and team blocking. He will also handle scouting as well as scheduling. Hyte has also played as a Division I volleyball player from 2002-04. As a former player at Brigham Young, Hyte was a member of the NCAA Division I championship team in 2004 and was a member of the 2003 NCAA runners-up. He posted a career hitting percentage of .587 and was awarded multiple tournament and team honors. Hyte earned a B.A. in communications with an advertising and marketing sequence in 2004 from Brigham Young University. Former Bengal Katie Edgson will also help coach the team as a graduate assistant coach. Edgson competed for Idaho State from 2004-07 and was the 10th Bengal to reach 1,000 career digs. Edgson will use her expertise to guide the defensive players. "Katie is well respected by the players," said head coach Teichert. "And being in the program is a great benefit to us." Edgson's duties will also include preparation and coordination of video, travel preparations and equipment management. She will be working her masters in Athletic Administration while she helps coach the Bengals. |
